I start with power and ground at the CCC. 12V present? Good. Now, optical test. I disconnect the fiber loop at the amplifier and inject light. No return signal? Break somewhere in the ring.
The usual suspects: connector under the front seat (gets stepped on), TCU behind the glove box (vibration), or the CCC’s own optical port (dirt or misalignment). I’ve seen a single grain of sand kill the entire display system.
And yes—moisture from clogged sunroof drains gets into the JBE and corrodes the MOST junction. Seen it twice last month. Clean the drains. Seriously.
Why This Happens (And Why It Keeps Coming Back)
The E60 was ahead of its time—centralized control, fiber optics, integrated modules. But that also means one weak link collapses the whole system.
The CCC is the master. It handles navigation, audio, phone, and climate. It talks to the IHKA over LIN-Bus (low-speed serial). If the CCC’s processor hiccups or the LIN driver fails, the IHKA never gets the command. Doesn’t matter if your blend doors are perfect or your refrigerant is full—the system is deaf.

Internally, the CCC suffers from thermal stress. Solder joints crack on the power supply and video processor. Capacitors dry out.
